Welcome to this week’s edition of “Around the Big Ten.” Enjoy!
ILLINOIS
After losing their previous two contests, the Illini were looking for some momentum when they welcomed the Penn State Nittany Lions. Led by Mike Davis’ 22 points, they were able to do just that in running the Lions off the floor in the 68-51 victory. That momentum was put on hold as the Illini lost a battle on the road against Northwestern, dropping their third game out of four 71-70. Illinois will head to Minnesota on Thursday.
INDIANA
IU dropped a close one at Michigan State, and were determined to keep their solid play rolling, despite losing Christian Watford with a broken hand. Undermanned, Indiana proved that they are capable of competing with the upper half of the Big Ten, and defeated their second ranked team in three games, downing Minnesota 60-57 behind a thunderous dunk and 12 points from Tom Pritchard. Facing a weaker squad in Iowa, most of the Hoosier Nation were looking for yet another win in conference against the Hawkeyes. Things did not plan out as hoped, as Verdell Jones missed a shot to win in the final seconds, and Victor Oladipo missed the put back attempt, as IU lost the game at home 64-63. IU will head to Purdue on Tuesday. Tip is set for 7 ET on ESPN.
IOWA
Iowa welcomed the lowly Spartans to Iowa City last week and ran the Spartans of Michigan State off the floor, winning big 72-52 behind Matt Gatens’ 19 points. Iowa then headed to Bloomington and beat IU 64-63. Melsahn Basabe had 20 points. Iowa welcomes Wisconsin on Wednesday.
MICHIGAN
The Wolverines took on Ohio State in Columbus and held the lead by three at the half. Although Michigan would lose the game 62-53, it got a solid game from Tim Hardaway jr., who had 15 points. Michigan then defeated Penn State on the road 65-62 behind Darius Morris’ 23 points. Michigan welcomes Northwestern Wednesday.
MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State is having a terrible season. The troubles continued in Iowa City, as the Spartans fell to Iowa 72-52. MSU then headed to Madison to face Wisconsin, only to lose yet again 82-56 despite 20 points from Kalin Lucas. Michigan State will face Penn State at home on Thursday.
MINNESOTA
The Gophers travelled to Bloomington only to get upset by the Hoosiers 57-60. Austin Hollins had 13 points. Minnesota headed home to face the No. 1 Buckeyes, but despite 16 points from Blake Hoffarber, lost 69-82. Minnesota will welcome Illinois Thursday.

Penn State headed back home to Happy Valley to host the Michigan Wolverines, but allowed the Wolverines to rally back and lost the game 65-62 despite 31 points from Talor Battle. Penn State will head to East Lansing to face the Spartans on Thursday.
PURDUE
The Boilermakers played the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center, but allowed the Badgers to score the final eight points of the contest, losing the game 66-59. JaJuan Johnson scored 23 points in the loss. Purdue will host Indiana at Mackey Arena on Tuesday. Game is at 7 ET on ESPN.
