Game 9: +/- Player Analysis (Kentucky Edition)

Looking at this game from the box score doesn't quite give it justice. I had a conversation with a Purdue fan about the game I thought I'd share. He said he was surprised that our team kept coming back after the 6-0 and 8-0 spurts by Kentucky. He was impressed that Crean had seemed to coach these guys well and had them in a position to win the game if their shots were going down. Also said he wouldn't be surprised to see IU knock off some top tier teams in the Big Ten if they can get more production from the front line. Finally, the Big Statement "IU could cause my Boilers trouble... I'm thinking we don't take both this year."

Anyways I thought that was pretty interesting since he has been solid on Purdue sweeping IU this year (my $50 said otherwise) until now. Enough about a Purdue fan, on with the stats!

Overall Game Stats

Things of Note:
1. I was SHOCKED to see Hulls at -25 for the game. I figured he wouldn't do as well going up against top flight athletes, but I didn't foresee him going -25 in a game we only lost by 19.
2. Theses final numbers don't tell the true story, just like the box score. That's why I broke it down a little different to show a better picture. It also shows just how horrible the last 8 minutes of the game was.

I broke the game into the 3 main points of the game. At half time we trailed by 1 point, the majority of the team played well and the +/- made sense. EXCEPT for Hulls at -10. I had to do the numbers twice to ensure they were right. It just didn't add up.

At the 8:00 mark, we were down by 1 and had a great chance to take this game. The stats are even better than they were at halftime. Then we all remember that horrible 8 min stretch. I won't go into much detail since we all remember, and I'm sure most of you are like me, it hurts to talk about.

Overall Through 9 Games

Overall you see everyone's numbers fell. It's still important to note that as long as the player is in the Positive (Green) he's doing a great job for the team. As the Losses start coming more frequently (hopefully not) it will be important to remember that.

Best/Worst Lineups of the Night

As you can see our best lineup of the night was a group that only had +4. We did have some positive runs (Can see on the website) but overall not one group that led us. The worst lineup also happened to be our starters. They were in the game for 3 different stints with two of them going for -3 and one was a push. Overall -6 was our worse combination by 2 points.

We also have a tie now for best overall Lineup. The bottom group went +3 on the night while the top group remained at +11 as they didnt' play together.

Game Lineup Analysis

As you can see, Crean used 22 different lineups amongst his 27 total lineups. For the game, only 15 were positive or neutral. The higher percentage of lineups used went negative which, similar to BC, resulted in a loss. For the year CTC has 123 different combinations of players with 50% of those being positive. I'd consider that good coaching, or a weak schedule lol!

Trend Analysis

That's the stats for the game. Tough loss for the team, but I think this will only make us stronger as we continue on our Road to the NIT this year. As always, you can click below to get more stats and all the previous games are stored there as well. What sticks out to you?
